Through the tunnel : plot
The story's eleven-year-old protagonist, Jerry, is caught in the difficult position of being neither a child nor an adult. On a winter holiday with his mother in a foreign country, he encounters some older boys swimming. When they disappear by swimming through a tunnel to the other side of a large rock in the ocean, he feels left out and rejected. Jerry makes it his goal to find the tunnel and swim through it, even though it means staying underwater so long that he could drown. By achieving this goal, he attains a form of independence from his mother . His mother was worried but allowed him to go. When he went there, there were some boys that spoke a different language. One of the boys waved at him but when they figuered out that he was a foreigner they continued doing their own things. He then wen into the water and swum with the other boys. Deep in the in eater of the Wild and rocky bay water, there was a deep hole which Jerry really wanted to see, so he swumed trying to get into the hole because it was not easy. As he went into the hole, he got stuck and he tried getting out. With the struggle had, he was injured and he cried all alone where no one could see him. He went back to the beach were his mother was and he never told his mother about what happened on that beach becuase he knew she will be very angry with him.
